Minerva Design Initiatives

While I've highlighted three of the largest design projects I've worked on at Minerva Project over the course of this most recent chapter of my career, it represents only a fraction of the total work.

Here is a glimpse of some of the varying types product design challenges I've successfully delivered. 

Seminar Classroom

Project: Forum 2.0
Role: Lead Designer
Description: A complete redesign of the classroom experience, allowing classes to gracefully scale from a dozen to hundreds of students.

Description: A complete redesign of the classroom experience, allowing classes to gracefully scale from a dozen to hundreds of students.

Project: Quick-Display Dashboard

Description: A way for the instructor to rapidly divide the stage into panes with keyboard shortcuts to select which student or resource goes in which.

Project: Pre-Class Experience

Description: A virtual "classroom hallway" experience where students could drag themselves around the screen to have private, spatial conversations.

Project: Chat Enhancements
Role: Lead Designer
Description: Featured to enhance chat in the classroom to allow for student/instructor private messaging, creating polls from chat, and a way to temporarily disable chat to bring attention to the classroom.

Description: Designed the initial version of a comprehensive system check to see if the user's computer met system requirements.

Description: A more comprehensive system check with the ability to seamlessly toggle between different AV hardware.

Description: A hub and spoke classroom model that allowed for active learning classes of up to 400 students.

Description: Custom, collaborative documents that allow for dynamic worksheets and coding exercises which can be assessed.

Project: Instructor notes

Description: Contextual notes from the lesson plan which can be displayed unobtrusively in class to the instructor.

Project: Breakout Control Room

Description: A way for the instructor to get a sense of student engagement across all active breakout groups, and specialized tools for student assistance.

Project: Professor Focus

Description: A way for the professor to virtually "stare" at an individual student to dial up academic pressure.

Project: Type-Ahead questions
Role: Lead Designer
Description: Allowed a student to raise their hand on a question they'd typed out ahead of time, allowing the professor to quickly scan it before inturrupting class.

Project: Debate Mode

Description: A way for two two students to debate a topic while the rest of the class judges their performance against a set of outcomes.

Description: Flexible drawing tools that allowed for collaborative markup of blank screens and uploaded resources, with advanced drawing tools and persmission controls.

Learning Management System

Description: Creation of a proprietary learning management system, allowing for course, grade and assignment tracking.

Description: Alows for academic performance tracking against integrated learning outcomes across a student's program.

Project: Course Standing View

Description: A compact way for a student to quickly get a sense of where they stand in the course, across absences, late assignment submissions and makeup work.

Description: A way for users to publically post profile information including interests, contact information and internship opportunities.

Project: Grading Dashboard

Description: A view allowing instructors to see how they're performing in the act of grading for all of their sections, compared against other instructors in the same college.

Description: A redesign of the LMS in order for high school students to understand their academic expectations, and gamification elements to help improve their performance.

Description: Allows partners and instructors to get visualized data on how their classes or sections from a performance and engagement point of view.

Description: Self directed college appliation with video interviews, cognition tests, and proctoring.

Description: A student intranet for Minerva Schools students designed and built from scratch.

Description: A custom student information system that provided advisers with a audit view of how the student is doing so they can help students plan their course loads and graduate timely.

Description: A product to allow students legally, culturally and financially prepare for each city on their global trek through their four years.

Description: A product that allows MSKGI students to effeciently plan their four year academic program.

Description: A site that allowed students to easily access to term reports, transcripts and academic forms.

Assessment Tools

Project: Poll Assessments
Role: Lead Designer
Description: A way to assess long form  student answers to polls. Allowed for detailed as well as triage grading. Also included blind and TA grading

Description: Features to allow instructors to grade without knowing the identity of the student for equity purposes.

Description: A feature that allowed student TAs to grade their peers feedback which included an approval loop so that instructors could oversee all of the work.

Description: A way for faculty to provide structured feedback on a lesson plan they just gave assessments on in order to improve it for the subsequent term.

Description: A way for deans to review courses and LPs and give feedback before approving into production.

Description: Allows for threaded, contextual conversations between colleagues developing syllabi and LPs.

Description: A way to templative and reuse common activities and steps to speed up curriculum development.

Project: Student Orientation

Description: Designed and taught a student orientation course to teach incoming MSKGI freshmen how to learn on Forum.

Project: Faculty Orientation

Description: Designed and taught a faculty orientation course to teach incoming MSKGI instructors how to effectively teach using Forum.

Project: Help Center

Description: Wrote the initial collection of suport articles and created video walkthroughs.
